Brian K. Balfe - Large group from New York

Brian K. Balfe (U.S. Army/Afghanistan) is representing a VERY large group from New York State (1300 males/100 females).  As of today (7/4/08) he has 23 requests from his 1st post (6/23/08).

Among the various *usual* items (hygiene, snacks, reading/writing materials, etc.) he is asking for all kinds of New York City and State items:

"Any/all New York (both New York City and Buffalo based teams) sports team fan items, like hats, gloves, baseballs, footballs, shirts, jerseys, towels, flags, etc. are huge here.
-Any/all New York/New York City tourist items to showcase where we come from.
-Any/all Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine "proud to be" items to showcase our different services.
-Anything else you can think of fun!!!"

I thought I'd post this to see if there's any chance any of you wonderful Junkie from New York would be able to help him out Wink

    Thanks!

Oh Marilyn - what state did you say that was?  I have to wait till one of my guys comes home in Sept.  Or do I?

I might have a few Jets, Giants, Yankees (ugh) things layin around here with no one to send them to.  Or do I.  And postcards?  Oh my!!  Do you think they'd like some photos of Manhattan?  Never know.  Got some goodies of Ms.  Liberty and probably Ellis Island and the Seaport.  And I gues it's time for a souvenir run down the turnpike anyway - it's been a while.  So I guess I have a bit'o'stuff for a box.

    Ann

P.S.  I've actually been looking for a place to unload my Yankees gear - it's driving this RED SOX  FAN nuts to see it sittin around here.

Yeah, Ann... giving your Yankee gear away to our deserving heroes has got to be at least one notch more satisfying than burning it would be. LOL (Why do you even have Yankee gear???) LOL Should we meet up at the Vince Lombardi for a shopping excursion? LOL

Big Smile  A lot of this is going right over this chick from the 'Burgh's head Big Smile

Now -- Pirates, Penguins & *Pix-burgh Stiller* stuff -- that's a whole 'nother story (LOL!)

And I'm sure they'd LOVE the postcards, Ann -- but, ummmmm -- Kristen -- where/what's the Vince Lombardi???  Come on over here and we'll shop at Station Square, or Mike Feinberg's in the Strip Wink

Hey Kristen - Watching the Sox outscore'em is actually my favorite!  Unfortunately I have some relatives who seem to think that 'other' team is the team to root for and since those relatives are minors - I have Yankee (OOps I typed that word!!) - gear sitting in the corner.  As if they don't have enough of the stuff already.  So now that I've ended up with doubles - ?  Anyway - Marilyn, the Vince Lombardi is the closest rest area on the NJTP with all kinds of goodies.  Of course there is always Moe's too - both here and Boston with sporting goods stuff but the Vince Lombardi ahs all the local stuff.  Plus all the local papers are covering the team vs the press thing now so I've been saving esp. yesterday's coverage and all the last of game stuff since April.  Yeah I know I should be burning it but...  Musta known somebody was comin along.

Thanks for the  chuckles everyone!! I was born and raised in NYC(Brooklyn to be precise), lived a few years in Manhattan and Queens, then moved to NJ.  My younger daughter graduated from U Pitt... so I totally hear you about "stillers" but I thought it was "stullers".. Anyway I will try to include some postcards/bumper stickers.

And the Vince lombardi is a rest stop on the NJ turnpike. In Pittsburgh-ease I guess it would be like Blue Mountain, Midland and can't remember more names believe it or not after all those trips on the Pa turnpike!

Re: Brian K. Balfe - Large group from New York

    Hey Brian,

Welcome, and I am a New Yorker all my life, grew up in Massapequa on the Island.  Where are you guys all from?  I even met Mickey Mantle in Atlantic City back in the early 90's as he was a spokesman for the Claridge Hotel along with Sparky Lyle.  Have some pictures of them.  Also met Willie Mays as he was the spokesman for Bally's in AC.  Willie Mays was always friendly every time I saw him.  My late hubby was thrilled meeting these guys, and I think he even golfed once with Sparky Lyle.

I will get your address and send some packages your way.

We will all be praying for you.  Please stay safe.

    Love,

    Mimi

    Hello Brian,

Welcome to Any Soldier and the Forum.  Hope you will be able to post here also and let us know what you can use.

Am accumulating some Mets and Yankees gear for you and your guys here.  Also have a bunch of postcards from the Vince Lombardi rest stop - my favorite place to get local postcards as well as a few other things. Hope all is well with you and your team.

Just a quickie note - anyone need RED SOX stuff:) (no throwing things at the Red Sox/Mets fan pls:)

    God Bless and Stay Well,

    Ann

PS Yesterday was the 62nd Old Timers Day game - and last - at the Stadium.  Scooter's widow threw the first pitch, caught by Jeter:).  Will get all the papers for you and include them in the box.  And yeah Reggie and Yogi were there as well as all the others - Paul O'Neill (love him)  and some guy named Bucky - Bucky who?

Hi Mimi, only a small part of my force here is from NY, and they are literally from across the entire state.  I grew up in Cornwall, returned to the Albany area after AD, and now live in Boston.

    Hello Ann,

We have all sorts of different sports fans here.  In fact, my boss is a huge Red Sox, Pats and Celts fan.  As for me, I grew up in NY, but live in Boston now.  I love all NY teams.  Baseball is my favorite sport.  I like the Mets, Yanks and Red Sox.  I know, how can that possibly be.  Football - it's Jets (Farve mania setting in), Giants and Pats.  Yes, it's true (tough Super Bowl for me last year).  Basketball - Knicks (really hard to like them in recent years) and Celts.  Hockey - Rangers and Bruins.  I guess I'm somewhat conflicted about my sport teams, but my wife and her family are from MA.  So, doesn't that explain it all.

    V/r,

    B
