Re: Card Swap #5 - Due back November 12th - Christmas Theme

     Hi All,

I  am working on card swap # 5 like many of you and I was trying to come up with something funny to put in the cards.   I came across this website http://www.christmaslettertips.com/free_adult_santa_letter.htm and what you can do is write a letter from Santa to an adult with a simple fill in the blank. Of course we can make it appropriate for what they are doing but what do you think about sending them a letter from Santa?

I love all the ideas tossed out here, keep em coming, I need them.

If y'all are open to a non-Christmas themed set of cards, I got a great package of cards and notes from students at Philly U. I can send them along with my 50, and get a doubledose back? Would that work? They're not even remotely holiday themed though. Let me know if you want to include them! :)

    Hi Card Junkies,

There is no reason to mail the cards priority unless you run out of time to send them.  There is still time to use first class.  If it is too bulky and hard to seal a flat rate, the cards will probably get smushed also.

Here is a link for first class postage rates for large envelope and packages up to 13 ounces.  The envelope cannot be more than 3/4" thick.  Large envelopes that are rigid, nonrectangular, or not uniformly thick pay package prices.    It appears that 13 ounces is the maximum for first-class envelopes and packages.  I couldn't find anywhere that said that it could be used over that weight.  After 13 oz it says to see Priority Mail.

    http://www.usps.com/prices/first-class-mail-prices.htm

Priority Mail for 16 ounces is $4.80 anywhere in the United States.  This is not using a flat rate envelope.  The post office has a larger Tyvek envelope that is priority mail but not flat rate.  You could use this to send.  If it is over 16 ounces you will have to pay for 2 pounds.  Priority mail is calculated by pounds so that anything over a pound goes to the next pound.  This link is for the chart that Lisa posted.

    http://www.usps.com/prices/priority-mail-prices.htm

Here is the link for a zone chart, which you will need if you go over 16 ounces.  Put the first 3 digits of  your zip code in the space at the top and then click on [Get Zone Chart]

    http://postcalc.usps.gov/Zonecharts/default.asp

I hope these links will help those in doubt.

     HI

Being in a DUH modd here.  50 cards?

We write 50 cards, send them to the Hostess  (shallw e send a hostess gift? <S>) and then she sends us 50 different ones back and we in turn send those to our guys and gals?

     Is this how it works?

     Thanks Amy

    Cheers,

Yay Phillis, welcome to the card swap.  Thank you for joining us.

Amy, yep, that's how it works. You get one card back from each person that participates in the card swap to send out to your guys, so basically you get to see people from all over the US.  We leave the cards unsealed, because people are drawn to like people, so some may be very religeous or political and think their contacts may not enjoy something irreverant and tongue in cheek from...someone like me.  LOL (official joke queen!)

Please try to be neutral and not too political or religeous.  And some people observe different holidays.  I really want to stress, if you are lonely, you don't care what time of year a person talks to you in.  If someone says happy (fill in the holiday) I wouldn't take it as an insult, I would take it as a joyful connection between two people, one who is wishing the hapiness of their life upon another.  The world speaks many languages, and this card swap is about the Cs of life, communication, connection, and caring.

Colourful, would love to have you send the cards, I have had several offers of extra cards.  To be honest, we still have a bit of time to go, and I would love to give people a chance to sign up and I think those tired or not sure about their timeing, may join us about a week after card swap 4 is done.  If the slots are not filled by October 20th, then I will open it to doubles if anyone wants.  We are at 27 and doing good...poke a Junkie and see if you can get them to join.

Iamamover, I love the website.  More word games.  LOL mine was totally out there but I was giggling.  We need to make some of these to send to the troops!  I choose naughty and then good.  So I came up with Lisa said  you were naughty, what a good girl you have been, for my friend Lori.  LOL  She was like hmmm.

    You guys are the greatest!

Mmkay I'll set those 50 cards aside for the swap; she sent us well over 200 altogether! (Sent a bunch to each of the Cards for Heroes shippers...way cool!) I agree, let's bring in more junkies, these can be extras!

I'd like to add my name to the list.  I lead a Bible study group of 7 so I'm sure we can have a card making night.  They won't be professional by any means since I can't even draw a stick figure man, but it's the thought that counts, right?

Andrea, welcome and thank you so much for signing up!  It IS the thought that counts.  A comforting hand comes in many different sizes, from a child to a college student, female, male, frail, strong, loving, touching, hugging, they are all forms of the earliest and best communications between humans.  It says I'm here and I care about you.  Stick figures are wonderful.  I hope your group has a lot of fun on your card making nights.  I can't wait to see them!

I just wanted to let you know that if you come up short on people for the card swap I am willing to do double. I have a friend that has offered to help out. I know it is still early and there is time for the list to fill up just thought I would make the offer now.

I just found out I have a business trip back east the week after next; if I can get them done before I go, I'm going to make a set of 50 Christmas postcards and get them signed on the airplane. I did that on my last trip and it was a blast! Captive audience and all, yknow, what a way to get the word out! :P If there is still a spot left that set can be a 2nd one for me, and if the swap is full before then, I'll just toss them in with mine as extras.

( Here are photos of my last cardsigning in midair! lol. )

What a great idea!  I'll be flying to San Diego soon,  and will borrow this from you.  I'll let you know how it goes.  Thank you!   Deni
