    Re: 2009 overlooked contacts

Our first box that we packed for Jennings to ship Wed. is 16 pr. boxers (12 lg., 4 med. because we had those on hand), 1 bath towel, 2 pr. flip flops, 2 dental travel kits, and a Sudoku cube puzzle to fill in a space.  We took time to fill a box for the survivors of the Sat. conflict, so we didn't get another box for him ready for Wed.

Tar Heel - I am just AMAZED at how many boxes some of the posters here are cranking out almost daily!  Surprise

I'm pacing myself at one every other week.  I've sent three boxes out so far.  I'll make sure that I check this thread for others that have been over looked.  I haven't requested Blanchette's yet, but I have his information in my file.  He's up to 10 requests now.  :)

Tiggle, do you remember approx. the sizes of boxers you sent to Jennings?  We had only included 4 pr. med. in our first box, with the other 12 pr. lge., so if you didn't send a lot of med., we will send more of that size since so many seem to wear that size, but if you sent a lot of med., we will send something else.

Checking Mays' status this morning - he has received his 50-day drop notice.  Hope it's just a matter of communications being down in the area due to casualties, and that he will update soon.

Gran, Can you tell me the criteria used to determine an overlooked contact?  I've been curious.

    Re: 2009 overlooked contacts

    Tiggle,

Thanks for your reply.  We might put in a few more size Med. in the next box that we will probably send Friday.  It looks like he has a lot of tees coming his way.  We will consider sending more of the sports shorts.

There is no written criteria for overlooked status - only each person's personal judgement in each case.  Basically, it amounts to units whose request numbers haven't grown in proportion to the time they have been signed up and the number of people they represent, such as a unit who is representing 20 or more and have been signed up for 2 or more months and only have 5 requests.  Marty suggested that we consider that some people who have 5 or less requests may have never received a package.  A contact representing 150 or more may have been signed up for 3 months and still have only 12 requests.  I consider them to more than likely need a little more TLC unless they have as a supporter one of the few major supporters who send hundreds of packages in a years time to each of their units.

Did everyone see the Emergency Request regarding Matteo Alba?  All of the troop's gear was stolen.  It makes me wonder about Jason Collins.  I wonder if we're going to see more soldiers not receiving the care packages or their gear for that matter.

It took me two weeks after I requested my first contact to send out a box.  I realized that I did request it a bit too early but I made sure I sent the items.  I do hope that those that requested the address are in the process of sending the care packages or have sent them by now.

Theft from military base (US and NATO) seems to be a persistent problem.  The culprit is likely to be Afghan nationals working on the bases.  Here is a 2008 Chicago Tribune article on that:

Thomas Staples - 7 req since Aug 19, 58 Troops. Hope this isn't a duplicate post. Did a search and the only ref I found was to the office supply store:).  Anyway - doesn't sound like Mr Staples is getting much support so thought I'd post him here.
