Jackie -  I cut all squares back down to 8.5 x 8.5 if they come bigger than that.  It would be good if you could send them 8.5 x 8.5 or a little bigger to ensure that size is usuable.

Let me know what information you were going to include on the square so I can answer better.

    Deni and Natascha

you both have squares in the mail.

Also, Deni, went back to the fabric heaven that is an antique store. No air conditioning and I was dripping sweat in 10 minutes, but I perservered and got TWO bags of fabric, and got to burrow under the tables to look at the fabric she has under there (5 boxes full!) and found some stuff, including a potato sac, that I am not going to use as a quilt square, but to dry my glassware! But, she said when she gets low, the woman brings in more. Apparently she has a room in her house that full, floor to ceiling. *sigh*  I swear, I think some of that fabric might just be real 50's  or 60's fabric.  There was stuff I remember seeing in my grandmas house! I got a few pieces, I might make an apron out if it.

Anyway,. hope the squares get to you all in good time.

Oh Heidi !  Thanks for posting.

I'm glad to hear about the squares heading to California for Natacha's Navy Quilt and my quilt(s).  Which reminds me, I better get busy making a square or two for Natascha.

Thank you!   Again I wish I could be with you in that store looking through those bins, bags, and boxes of material.

Not only did Natascha get a quilt done for a new contact,  I finished Patrick's quilt also.  Patrick is back in the USofA.   Check out the photos on her blog - http://freedomisntfreequiltingbee.blogspot.com/

Re: Quilting Bee is Once Again Alive!

I have good news and bad news.

The good news is I'm receiving squares for the Memorial Quilts that I will be starting on next.

The most recent ones have come from Heidi, Kerri, and Jackie.

Jackie is our newest recruit and she sent 3 personalized squares today for the quilts.

All the squares are looking so perfect and loving.

The bad news is I received a half eaten envelope today from the USPS that Lynne had mailed, and the 2 squares that should have been inside are missing.  Can anyone give me any hope of finding them through the system?   I'm persistant,  I found a missing Marine didn't I?  I know , this is the government we're talking about.   I'll ask for help.

    Re: Quilting Bee: specific fabric

    Hi

I am a member of a B-29 Superfortress group and one of the members is searching for quilt fabric that relates to the B-29 Superfortress itself for a fundrasing quilt. Anyone have any fabric like that or know where one might search?

    Thanks

    Re: Quilting Bee: Memorial Quilts

This thread began in Special Projects as Quilting Bee is Once Again Alive!

Ok, ladies this is going to be a long one.

After mailing off Marine Sgt. Patrick B's lap quilt this morning, I was leaving the parking lot when I noticed a Gold Star banner in the window of a parked car.

I circled around and parked next to it on the driver's side.  Right at that moment, 2 ladies walked to the other side of it and placed their purchases into it.

As they walked in front of my car, I got out and asked them if one of them had lost a son.  (I know not the most gentle way to begin a conversation.  They caught me offguard coming back to their car so quickly.)

She noticed my shirt I was wearing with the wording - Remembering Their Sacrifices - (thanks Kim - rememberingtheirsacrifices.com/) and I could tell she felt comforted by that.

The one closest to me answered yes.  Her son, a Marine, was the first one from our County to die 3 years ago.  I asked his name, and then was able to tell her that my husband Tom, daughter Jamie, son-in-law Paul, and I were at his Memorial Service.

I mentioned AnySoldier.com and the packages I'm still mailing to our troops, and mentioned the quilting bee that I have been involved in with the latest one just mailed out to a Marine.

I told her and her friend the next 3 quilts will be Memorial Quilts.  She said the quilts she received from our local groups (one of them had my family's signatures on it) brings her much comfort and for us never to stop reaching out with our quilts to bring comfort to those who have lost loved ones.

I assured her we wouldn't stop.

This week I will begin piecing together the first of the three quilts.

Please pray with me that everything will come together and that the parents that we are making these quilts for, find comfort when they receive them.

    Re: Quilting Bee: specific fabric

Thanks Deni. I have looked online and couldn't find anything either. I was thinking that maybe someone might have some airplane fabric that had WWII planes on it. I have some that has the fighters on it, but not the big bombers. It was worth the try though.

    Go check out:

    http://www.maryjos.com/

They don't have everything on their website, but they have a toll-free number and will search for you.  When do you need it?  I will probably be driving up there in the next two weeks.

Have you considered doing photo transfer fabric?  Deni knows a lot more about doing that than I do.

    Re: Quilting Bee: specific fabric

I will check it out, thanks! I did not think of the photo transfer paper. GREAT idea. I will pass that idea along. I was not given a time limit to look, so I would assume that there isn't one.

    Thanks for your help!

    Deni,

The 5 red, white blue blocks and 4 gold star blocks are on their way to you.  I just changed my avatar to one of the blocks.  Couldn't resist!
