Yes, scmiller, that first e-mail is oh, so, special to the heart. Then comes the 2nd and the 3rd, ETC and they, too, are also special. I have printed off and kept everyone of mine over the years. Even though I have lost contact with the guys and ladies that have sent them I will still take them out from time to time and read each one of them. I wonder how they are doing. If they reinlisted or have gone home after their deployment back to their families. I still pray for them and their completeness.
My first was from an 18 yr old young man. He was so homesick and a bit scared. I had no grandchildren at the time so I kind a adoped him as my grandson. I do hope he found some comfort in my letter and carepackage and that even though I didn't know him I cared about him.
My second was from a young lady nurse about 26 yrs old. She had a husband and children back in the states and was counting off the days when she would be on furlough. Her want at the time was to be able to take a 15 minute hot shower undisturbed. Its strange how what we take for granted is so valuable to these young people. I quickly packed her up a box of feminine things she most certainly could not get at any PX. Before and after bath stuff like that. I have a daughter of my own so it was easy after I got some help from her.
So you see, scmiller, like nothing else, this is a WIN, WIN thing. Being the sender or the sendee we all reap the harvest.
Just keep your letters, cards, and carepackages moving.
