    Hi.

In the past I've sent manicure sets I picked up from the local drug store...clipper/emeryboard/small scissors in each kit. I tossed in some cuticle cream, small bottles of nice smelling hand cream, foot lotion and a pair of cheery holiday theme anklet socks they could wear in their living quarters.

I've also sent make up brush sets and lip glosses (the kind with the wand), cute picture frames and blank journals with a nice pen.

Bath and Body Works has a set packaged in a nice gift box. It has a full size a bottle of lotion, shower gel, and the spritzer for 22.50. There is an online coupon for $10 off a purchase over $30. I bought 2 of them and it worked out to be a $18 a piece. They are really nice.

    Re: Christmas Gift!

I think anything can be turned into some extra Christmas fun by wrapping it in gift wrap. My parents did this for us kids when money was tight: we received new socks and other 'regular' stuff, however it seemed more special since we got to unwrap it!

I'm also putting in unsigned Christmas cards + pens for soldiers to be able to send home to their families. There doesn't seem to be any of that available for most. I include a note telling the contact person what they're for so they know to hand them out.

At Target I recently found Olay sets that include a full size shower gel, a full size lotion and an Embrace razor.  There is also a bar of soap.  There is a trial size of body wash as well.  They also include a little scrubbie sponge.  It is all nicely packaged in a plastic case with a handle.  All for $8.99!!  The razor alone retails for $8 on sale!  If you have Olay coupons for either lotion or body wash, you can use it as well.

They also had Dove sets, but no razor. For the men, there were 2 different Axe sets and an Old Spice set.

I was pretty impressed with the contents of the sets for the price.  All were $8.99. But the most impressive was the Olay.

As to journals...........I had a soldier who recently asked for a journal.  Well, I sort of forced it out of her.  She said, "It's not in my nature to ask for anything, but if you want to....." and went on to ask for a new journal because hers had been lost on her last mission.  I shopped around and couldn't find what I wanted.  She wanted unlined paper and everything good had lines.  I finally found a great one on Cafe Press online.  You can choose lined or unlined paper and there are literally thousands of covers to choose from.  I found military themed ones!!!! And finally found HERS....It says "deployment thoughts" on the front.  They are about $9.00.

Thanks for the heads up about the journals. Cafe Press has some funky stuff. I'll check it out.

    Re: Christmas Gift!

After Christmas thought ... Last year I went shopping the day after Christmas and got those foot care sets, lotion sets, bath sets, etc. for half off. (You know the kind that Walmart has the shelves stocked full of during the holiday season)   The ones I bought didn't say anything "Christmasy" on them.  I sent several foot care sets over (clippers, scrubby things and such) along with various lotions.  I received a card with notes from 4 different female soldier who had gotten something out of that care package.  They and their feet were all thanking me.  So, if you don't get those to them during the holiday season they are also GREAT to pick up after Christmas.  And, as we know, the Christmas spirit can be at any time for our military members.

    Great tip Christi!

My mom is the queen of finding clearance sales.  She asked what she could do to help with the christmas box and I told her she's in charge of the "after christmas clearance sales".  I did put a little extra smell good things in the "female" gift bags.
