This is my first time writing a new post so bear with me here please! 

There has been a special request to do something nice for a contact located at the Korengal Outpost in Afghanistan.  Eric Ortegren will be turning 30 at the KOP this March.   Since he will be away from home for this milestone of a birthday, his mother was looking for ideas and what not to make it a great birthday for him! 

We are looking for birthday items to send as well as collecting letters, cards and emails for this soldier to put in a album for him. (Thanks for that suggestion Jenifer!!)  Anyone who wants to be involved is more then welcome! 

I will be collecting the cards, letters and emails to put in a album/scrapbook for Eric so if you'd like, you can PM me and I'll provide my email or home address for people to send to.

I'm sure we can make this a great birthday for Eric and I know how much it would mean to his family (they are thrilled we're involved).  

I can't wait to hear everyone's thoughts and suggestions!

Kristen, Diana and Jenifer - PM'ed you guys my address. 

Talked to Eric's mom and she said that all of our ideas are "superb" and she thinks anything Elvis or "silly items" would be great to send over.  She said Eric (who just returned from his leave) is in desperate need of a laugh, he is missing his family something fierce.    I can't imagine how hard it was to leave his family behind to go back there.

I was waiting until I started getting things in the mail before I gave anyone an update.  Nothing yet but I'm sure any day now the cards and stuff will start pouring in! 

I've also sent an email to Justin asking about a special contact to send to for Eric's birthday but have heard nothing yet.  As I've sure most of you have seen, Justin's group is moving out so he may just be busy with that transition. 

Would anyone mind putting together some birthday items for Eric?  Maybe some type of cakes, snacks, decorations?  What does everyone think about that?

Do you already have an album? I'm wondering if I should do an actual birthday card, or more like a scrapbook page? I can do either, but I thought it would be really cool to do a scrapbook page/collage-type thing.

I am sorry!!  I either missed it or it didn't come. 

No, I do not have an album yet.  I was going to do something like a scrapbook type thing with the cards I got.  Does that make sense?  I agree, it would be really cool to do a scrapbook/collage-type page! 

Just a reminder to everyone - I'd like to have the cards and all of the other type stuff  by 2/7 if possible.  I'd like to have a little time to put everything together and get it out by the end of February.  Thank you all so much for making this happen!

p.s..hey, did you see that big storm coming our way?  10-12 inches...maybe it will be a snow day...whoo hoooooo!!

I got the card last night Laura.  Cutest Paris stamps!  Can I borrow them from your daughter?  :) 

(PS - we didn't get hardly anything.  Some ice and sleet maybe but it was mostly gone this morning.  I was hoping for a snow day from work!!!)

i'm putting a card in the mail tomorrow (monday) so it should get to you by thursday. i put it inside another envelope addressed to you b/c i wasnt sure what you were planning to do with them. good luck with the project!
