  • Re: 6-4 CAV Soldiers, Afghanistan

Hi! From what some of the Soldiers reported to their wives, they aren't allowed to buy the tobacco over there, the cheap stuff, for that reason. It may be "poisoned". Interpret that as you may. I've never asked for the official reason, just heard there was a high demand because of the...

  • Re: 6-4 CAV Soldiers, Afghanistan

Ahhhh.... I am not a smoker, but saw the need to send cigarettes to the guys during out last deployment. I had started a mini-campaign, "Smokes for Joe", at that time, and my neighbors all pitched in. The guys cannot buy cigarettes where they are right now. None at all. My husband and I don't...

  • Re: 6-4 CAV Soldiers, Afghanistan

Good questions. 3-1 Stands for 3rd Brigad of the 1st Infantry Division. The Division is the big, parent unit. Under it is a number of Brigades. We are the Third Brigade. Under the Brigade lies six Battalions, or in our case, we are called a Squadron as we're Cavalry. Yes, we all know each other....

  • Re: 6-4 CAV Soldiers, Afghanistan

Hi! I sent my husband the AS contact list you had (REALLY good work with that, too!), and he forwarded it to the Troop Commanders. They are the best to reach their Soldiers, and when possible get them to update online. Hopefully this will help keep those updates coming in. 6-4 CAV is the "6th Squadron...

  • Re: 6-4 CAV Soldiers, Afghanistan

JoCee, I've been around the military for 17 years now, too, and have NEVER seen a unit this remote with so little access. Except maybe during the first Gulf War. THAT would be a good comparison, with very little contact and ways to update on an AS forum. I'm sure the AS folks have been very flexible...

  • Re: 6-4 CAV Soldiers, Afghanistan

They are VERY good banners, even at the full price. I checked, have been informed by the wife of the guy who had requested a shop vac that she's been told that someone is filling that request. Otherwise it's been quiet here. Four day training weekend, so the guys will be "back to work"...

  • Re: 6-4 CAV Soldiers, Afghanistan

I've asked the wife of the guy who requested the item about this. I'd like to make sure we know exactly what they need before it's purchased and sent off. Yes, the gal who runs that blog is a wonderful woman supporting our Troops, too. I met her with another gal: www.tankerbabelc985.vox.com...

  • Re: 6-4 CAV Soldiers, Afghanistan

Thank you. Looks like I've been sending the correct info to the Families. Also thank you for pointing out where contacts can assign alternates. Problem is, even those who would act as alternates probably don't have regular access to the internet, either. And if they do, they're probably shooting...
